A gentle whisper came to me late at night
He woke me up and bid me walk by his side
We went to a place where beautiful stars gleam
I was so thrilled and thought it was a dream
But felt assured when I saw you there smiling
Pointing to the stars and they respond by shinning
You said, "Proceed" and walked away and I followed
We stopped at a place that I felt is horrid
It was too dark and awful noises heard
You looked at me and whispered, "Don't be afraid"
There stood a palace that looked to me fearful
I was about to faint and you said "Careful!"
Two guards were there ready to attack
Staring at us viciously and gesturing "go back"
You spoke few words and all doors opened
You took me inside and said "No talkin'!"
We entered a room that was full of mirrors
You bid me look and watch the horrors
I saw myself clutching at the stars
They burned my hands, it felt so hard
"Stars are unreachable!" You said to me
"And next come on I'll let you see!"
I saw myself reaching out for a flower
In a wild garden with serpents and fire
One of them bit me and I fell down
"Beware my dear and look around"
And next I saw myself falling from a mountain
The end is tragic. It's really terrible
We left the palace and I felt better
At least I learned to become clever
We then went to contemplate the sun
You said I shouldn't look until it goes down
"Looking to the sun is no good, dear
Will only blind you, and that I fear
You can best see it if you look around
You'll see its reflection and get insight
Now come I'll show you the wide sea"
And so we went to find it angry
Swearing and screaming out so loudly
"I love the sea, but not today!
Pray let's proceed and come again"
"Just wait I'll show you its significance
Down at the bottom is really different"
We jumped and dived at the sea deep down
It was so calm. No sound pronounced
I was amazed. It was so charming!
"That's it my dear. You should never fear!
When the waves are high, go down the sea
And rise again and calm it will be"
"We'll go now to the wise men"
"To the land of dead?"
"Now please proceed!"
"Why go to the past? The future is important!"
"We'll see! We'll see! Don't herald judgments!"
"Oh God! Is it him? I know that person!"
"Who would he be? I can't remember."
"Oh can't you see! He is the president!"
"Oh no my dear! He's a dead person.
We're in the past. Can't you remember?"
"I swear he is. Just look and see."
"Who are you sir? Give her relief."
"I was a king. I owned a land
and ruled a people once in the past.
I was no good, I was no just
I killed some thousands, now I regret
At last I am doomed and have to roam
this place forever and can't rest ever."
"He is the president. The past is future.
It is important. Thanks for that venture."
"And fifth and last, Where shall we go?"
"To this castle there. Now be prepared"
"There is no living creature inside
All static there. Not worth the sight."
"We'll wait and see! Now please proceed!"
"Have you ever been to the land of oranges?"
"How would I be to what was before my time?"
"Access it from here. From this painting to the inside."
"Oh, wow! How pretty! How very pretty."
"Now time is up. We have to go."
"I wish to stay…"
"No, please proceed. It's morning now."
"I now see morning in a different light."
"The past, the future, the sun and sea
Are no longer the same as they were for me
I thank you my guide for the wonderful journey
I value you it more than words can say
Farewell my guide I'll go and tell you
If some day any one criticize you
And say to you "You travel in dreams

My Last Duchess

That’s my last Duchess painted on the wall,
Looking as if she were alive. I call
That piece a wonder, now: Fra Pandolf’s hands
Worked busily a day, and there she stands.
Will’t please you sit and look at her? I said
“Fra Pandolf” by design, for never read
Strangers like you that pictured countenance,
The depth and passion of its earnest glance,
But to myself they turned (since none puts by
The curtain I have drawn for you, but I)
And seemed as they would ask me, if they durst,
How such a glance came there; so, not the first
Are you to turn and ask thus. Sir, ’twas not
Her husband’s presence only, called that spot
Of joy into the Duchess’ cheek: perhaps
Fra Pandolf chanced to say “Her mantle laps
Over my lady’s wrist too much,” or “Paint
Must never hope to reproduce the faint
Half-flush that dies along her throat”: such stuff
Was courtesy, she thought, and cause enough
For calling up that spot of joy. She had
A heart—how shall I say?—too soon made glad,
Too easily impressed; she liked whate’er
She looked on, and her looks went everywhere.
Sir, ’twas all one! My favour at her breast,
The dropping of the daylight in the West,
The bough of cherries some officious fool
Broke in the orchard for her, the white mule
She rode with round the terrace—all and each
Would draw from her alike the approving speech,
Or blush, at least. She thanked men,—good! but thanked
Somehow—I know not how—as if she ranked
My gift of a nine-hundred-years-old name
With anybody’s gift. Who’d stoop to blame
This sort of trifling? Even had you skill
In speech—(which I have not)—to make your will
Quite clear to such an one, and say, “Just this
Or that in you disgusts me; here you miss,
Or there exceed the mark”—and if she let
Herself be lessoned so, nor plainly set
Her wits to yours, forsooth, and made excuse,
—E’en then would be some stooping; and I choose
Never to stoop. Oh sir, she smiled, no doubt,
Whene’er I passed her; but who passed without
Much the same smile? This grew; I gave commands;
Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands
As if alive. Will’t please you rise? We’ll meet
The company below, then. I repeat,
The Count your master’s known munificence
Is ample warrant that no just pretence
Of mine for dowry will be disallowed;
Though his fair daughter’s self, as I avowed
At starting, is my object. Nay, we’ll go
Together down, sir. Notice Neptune, though,
Taming a sea-horse, thought a rarity,
Which Claus of Innsbruck cast in bronze for me!

Porphyria's Lover

The rain set early in tonight,
The sullen wind was soon awake,
It tore the elm-tops down for spite,
and did its worst to vex the lake:
I listened with heart fit to break.
When glided in Porphyria; straight
She shut the cold out and the storm,
And kneeled and made the cheerless grate
Blaze up, and all the cottage warm;
Which done, she rose, and from her form
Withdrew the dripping cloak and shawl,
And laid her soiled gloves by, untied
Her hat and let the damp hair fall,
And, last, she sat down by my side
And called me. When no voice replied,
She put my arm about her waist,
And made her smooth white shoulder bare,
And all her yellow hair displaced,
And, stooping, made my cheek lie there,
And spread, o’er all, her yellow hair,
Murmuring how she loved me—she
Too weak, for all her heart’s endeavor,
To set its struggling passion free
From pride, and vainer ties dissever,
And give herself to me forever.
But passion sometimes would prevail,
Nor could tonight’s gay feast restrain
A sudden thought of one so pale
For love of her, and all in vain:
So, she was come through wind and rain.
Be sure I looked up at her eyes
Happy and proud; at last I knew
Porphyria worshiped me: surprise
Made my heart swell, and still it grew
While I debated what to do.
That moment she was mine, mine, fair,
Perfectly pure and good: I found
A thing to do, and all her hair
In one long yellow string I wound
Three times her little throat around,
And strangled her. No pain felt she;
I am quite sure she felt no pain.
As a shut bud that holds a bee,
I warily oped her lids: again
Laughed the blue eyes without a stain.
And I untightened next the tress
About her neck; her cheek once more
Blushed bright beneath my burning kiss:
I propped her head up as before
Only, this time my shoulder bore
Her head, which droops upon it still:
The smiling rosy little head,
So glad it has its utmost will,
That all it scorned at once is fled,
And I, its love, am gained instead!
Porphyria’s love: she guessed not how
Her darling one wish would be heard.
And thus we sit together now,
And all night long we have not stirred,
And yet God has not said a word!

I could see him coming
From far away ,
I couldn’t really distinguish
The features of his face.

I stood in my place,
And waited for him
To come near to me.

He had an angelic smile
On his face,
Which never disappeared.

I couldn’t resist the charm
Of his smile
Even though I saw
Sharp fangs behind.

He was coming nearer and
Nearer.

I couldn’t stand
the look and the smile.
I lost control and found myself
between his arms.
He promised me so many things.

I was living a dream
When I wake up from pain.

His fangs were in my neck,
He was sucking my blood
Again and again .

After a while that seemed age
He got his fangs out of my neck,
Loosened his arms,
And let me fall on the ground
Week and haggard.

I lifted my head,
And looked at his face.
The smile was still there.

I forgot every thing.
Only remembered one thing,
The angelic smile on his face
Although his fangs were covered
With the blood of my veins.

The features of his face.

I stood in my place,
And waited for him
To come near to me.

He had an angelic smile
On his face,
Which never disappeared.

I couldn’t resist the charm
Of his smile
Even though I saw
Sharp fangs behind.

He was coming nearer and
Nearer.

I couldn’t stand
the look and the smile.
I lost control and found myself
between his arms.
He promised me so many things.

I was living a dream
When I wake up from pain.

His fangs were in my neck,
He was sucking my blood
Again and again .

After a while that seemed age
He got his fangs out of my neck,
Loosened his arms,
And let me fall on the ground
Week and haggard.

I lifted my head,
And looked at his face.
The smile was still there.

I forgot every thing.
Only remembered one thing,
The angelic smile on his face
Although his fangs were covered
With the blood of my veins.

This book is designed as a crash course for the TOEFL essay exam, sometimes called the TWE, Test of Written English.
ACE the TOEFL Essay has two fantastic components that are sure to help you get the score you want:
1. Outlines of exactly how to write essay exams, with transitional sentences, evidentiary statements, and every other type of expository element formatted in graphics.
2. Ten real sample essay exams written by a university professor in response to ten real sample essay questions.
Furthermore, there are twenty pages dedicated to punctuation, including hundreds of examples. In addition to the ten real essay exams (model answers), a separate section explains six different patterns of development for essay writing; each pattern (except the first) with its own sample essay, highlighted for speedy reference, points out the cues to look for in essay questions and demonstrates how to respond in the essay answers. Plus, an irregular verb list and supplements on confusing adjectives, nouns, and adverbs provide the lost TOEFL student worlds of information at a glance
We meet various townspeople with motives and secrets of their own who might be involved in the disappearance or its aftermath. As the mystery of Daniel's disappearance deepens, Joshua and Nathalie struggle to find new meaning in their existence and to discover if their fragmented marriage can ever be made whole again.

A beautifully written and suspenseful tale of love and peril by an award-winning writer. Backpacking into the Wind River Mountains on their tenth annual trip, Mack and his wife, Vonnie, find the magnificent woods and stunning mountains of Wyoming full of ghosts and danger. Vonnie is a fiercely intelligent, headstrong girl who came west for love, only to have it stolen from her bit by bit.

They've made this trip to say goodbye to each other, but as they navigate the trails they know so well, they come to understand the true nature of their wounds. Neil deGrasse Tyson | Blackstone Audio, Inc | English | ISBN: 1433244098 | January 19, 2009 | MP3 |183 MB

In August 2006, the International Astronomical Union voted Pluto out of planethood. Far from the sun, tiny, and eccentric in orbit, it's a wonder Pluto has any fans. Yet during the mounting debate over Pluto's status, Americans rallied behind the extraterrestrial underdog. The year of Pluto's discovery, Disney created an irresistible pup by the same name, and, as one NASA scientist put it, Pluto was "discovered by an American for America." Pluto is entrenched in our cultural, patriotic view of the cosmos, and Neil deGrasse Tyson is on a quest to discover why.
James Huston | Blackstone Audio, Inc | English | ISBN: 1433227444 | May 12, 2009 | MP3 | 316 MB

An explosive novel of politics, money, and lies, Marine One expertly mixes political intrigue with courtroom drama and fast-paced action in what will be one of the most talked-about thrillers of the year.

After the presidents' helicopter, Marine One, goes down in a brutal thunderstorm, the government blames the European manufacturer of the helicopter, accusing them of killing the president. Senate investigations and Justice Department accusations multiply as Mike Nolan, a Marine Corps reserve helicopter pilot and trial attorney in civilian life, is hired to defend the company from the criminal investigations and a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by the most notorious lawyer in America on behalf of the First Lady. Nolan knows that to win his case, he has to find out what really caused Marine One to crash and why the president threw caution aside to go to a meeting no one seems to know about.

Phillip Margolin | HarperAudio | English | ISBN: 0061767956 | June 2, 2009 | MP3 | 253 MB

When the editor-in-chief of World News magazine offers Amanda Jaffe a $500,000 retainer to defend Charlie Marsh, an ex-con turned bestselling spiritual guru, in bestseller Margolin's entertaining fourth thriller to feature the Portland, Ore., lawyer (after Proof Positive), Amanda can't say no. Marsh, who fled the country in 1997 after being accused of murdering Congressman Arnold Pope Jr., has spent the 12 years since in the African country of Batanga "under the protection of its benevolent ruler," Jean-Claude Baptiste, whose threat to kill Marsh for sleeping with his favorite wife has prompted Marsh to return to the U.S. to stand trial. Toss in Pope's revenge-seeking father, several homicidal maniacs and the evil head of the Batanga secret service, and you've got a plot set on full boil. While some readers will figure out the identity of Pope's real killer early on, all will enjoy following the resourceful Amanda as she puts the puzzle pieces together.

Relentless: A Novel by Dean Koontz

Relentless
Dean Koontz | Brilliance Audio | English | ISBN: 1423356950 | June 9, 2009 | MP3 | 258 MB

Bestselling novelist Cullen “Cubby” Greenwich is a lucky man and he knows it. He makes a handsome living doing what he enjoys. His wife, Penny, a children’s book author and illustrator, is the love of his life. Together they have a brilliant six-year-old, Milo, affectionately dubbed “Spooky,” and a non-collie named Lassie, who’s all but part of the family.
So Cubby knows he shouldn’t let one bad review of his otherwise triumphant new book get to him — even if it does appear in the nation’s premier newspaper and is penned by the much-feared, seldom-seen critic Shearman Waxx. Cubby knows that the best thing to do is ignore the gratuitously vicious, insulting, and inaccurate comments. Penny knows it; even little Milo knows it. If Lassie could talk, she’d tell Cubby to ignore them, too.
Ignore Shearman Waxx and his poison pen is just what Cubby intends to do. Until he happens to learn where the great man is taking his lunch. Cubby just wants to get a look at the mysterious recluse whose mere opinion can make or break a career — or a life.

But Shearman Waxx isn’t what Cubby expects, and neither is the escalating terror that follows what seemed to be an innocent encounter. For Waxx gives criticism; he doesn’t take it. He has ways of dealing with those who cross him that Cubby is only beginning to fathom. Soon Cubby finds himself in a desperate struggle with a relentless sociopath, facing an inexorable assault on far more than his life.
Fearless, funny, utterly compelling, Relentless is Dean Koontz at his riveting best, an unforgettable tale of the fragile bonds that hold together all that we most cherish — and of those who would tear those bonds asunder.

Need information about Post-Graduate Linguistic studies in Faculty of Arts

This is Ahmed. I have been graduated from faculty of Alsun, Ain-Shams University last year. I used to come to this wonderful forum years ago when i was at the third year and i hope that anyone may be remember me .

I had loved this forum because it is unique than other forums on the internet. There are many forums i believe, too many to be counted, may be bigger, larger, but as far as my knowledge can reach, no one has all the lovely features that this forum have. It is mainly about the warm atmosphere that is found here between all members, the many shared things among them, the refined style and nature of it and many other things, honestly it seems like another campus here.
I have said all these because i was really happy when i found this forum came again to life when i received an email saying that the forum have been moved to this new address, i had many times gone to the old address and just found that it disappeared. Whatever the reason for this change, i think it does not alter anything, except that this forum should return stronger than before. I mean if its name have changed, Its identity does not, you are here students and Doctors, the same theme, the same lovely atmosphere, nothing changed except a name, (which by the way, is a lovely new name ).
I am saying this because i now find this forum have little new posts than it used to be. may be its the impact of the exams period, but it really should grow, because it deserves that and its original members and those for whom this forum was originally created should revive it. This is something i should not have been that much asserting because i am not the one who is in the position to say that, but i really said what i feel and what i think should be.

Oh, I think i have kept talking and talking till i have been off-topic from my original title. I want really to know what is the system of the preliminary studies in Faculty of Arts, Linguistics branch. I am really thinking of doing post-graduate studies and want to know as much useful information as possible from those who are there or know much info about. Mainly i want to know:
- When and how i can apply?
- Concerning the admission test for the Linguistics branch, is it a general english test, or what its nature, i mean what is it about and what it should cover? and when it is held?
- How many students in average are there in the Linguistics branch each year.
- The nature of the studies in this branch.
- Lastly, what are the tuition feeeeeeees

I would appreciate much any reply to this as soon as possible.

It must not go without saying many thanks for Dr. Mohammed, for his numerous help and support which is much apparent in this forum. Also i want to say hello to all people and members here.

I think this post should have been divided into other smaller topics but i find that my train of thought going from one topic to another and coming to a topic which i really wanted to talk about.

Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori believed that "…all children are endowed with [the] capacity to 'absorb' culture" and, if exposed to things could learn them without feeling like they were being taught. Her observation was that in this way they learned happily and without tiringit started with reading, and the astonishing fact that many children with proper access to resources would easily learn to read at the age of four.

She believed that children learned through exposure to cultural activities. She said that the teacher's role was not to teach, but to prepare and arrange a series of learning opportunities which each child can move through instinctively.

Maria Montessori was, in many ways, ahead of her time. Born in the town of Chiaravalle, in the province of Ancona, Italy, in 1870, she became the first female physician in Italy upon her graduation from medical school in 1896.

In her medical practice, her clinical observations led her to analyze how children learn, and she concluded that they build themselves from what they find in their environment.

Her desire to help children was so strong that in 1906 she gave up both her university chair and her medical practice to work with a group of sixty young children of working parents. It was there that she founded the first Casa dei Bambini, or "Children's House." What ultimately became the Montessori method of education developed there, based upon Montessori's scientific observations of these children's almost effortless ability to absorb knowledge from their surroundings, as well as their tireless interest in manipulating materials. Every piece of equipment, every exercise, every method Montessori developed was based on what she observed children to do "naturally," by themselves, unassisted by adults.

Montessori Education
Montessori is a comprehensive educational approach from birth to adulthood based on the observation of children's needs in a variety of cultures all around the world.

The Montessori environment contains specially designed, manipulative "materials for development" that invite children to engage in learning activities of their own individual choice. Under the guidance of a trained teacher, children in a Montessori classroom learn by making discoveries with the materials, cultivating concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning.
